Known as the "Queen of the Carolina Sea Islands", Beaufort is a place where you can soak in the coastal lifestyle. Beaufort is located right in between Savannah, GA and Charleston, SC and is a smaller, but very culturally rich coastal town. The city is renowned for its gorgeous location and for its impressive antebellum architecture, which has been impeccably maintained. Being located close to Parris Island and a U.S. Naval Hospital, Beaufort is rich in military history and sites to see. It is also home to the Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort.
It is full of history, museums, parks, fishing, water sports, and golf. You can enjoy carriage rides, Hunting Island, or visit many of the local restaurants for tasty, southern cooking and fresh, local seafood. Most are not aware that many films were shot in the Beaufort area. You can visit the movies sites of Forrest Gump, The Great Santini, The Big Chill, GI Jane, Platoon and Forces of Nature.
Beaufort is also home to the Original Gullah Festival which celebrated its 300th Anniversary this year in May, the Beaufort Water Festival held in July and the Shrimp Festival held in October. When in Beaufort for these fun events, make sure to visit their beach, which was titled as one of the "Top 10 Beaches in America" by Trip Advisor in 2008.
